Psalm 146: 1-4: “Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD O my soul! While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; in that very day his plans perish.” “My soul” is another way of speaking of one’s inner being. “While I live” the poet makes a strong vow to praise the LORD for the rest of his life. “In princes” the point is that even the best people are not adequate help in times of terrible stress. In contrast is the individual who finds ultimate
help in God who lives forever.
