2 Thessalonians 2:13-15: “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.” Paul was continually giving thanks to the Lord for the believers. He was thankful for their salvation, which was based on God’s choice of them, His work in them through the Spirit and the Word, and their ultimate glorification. “chose” the Greek tense of this word indicates that in the past God had chosen the Thessalonians to be His people, set apart as holy to Him – like we (us Christians) are today. Our salvation is accomplished by the Spirit when we place our faith in Christ. Through the power of the Spirit we are to prepare for, on this earth, a glorious future with Christ by living in a holy manner.
