Proverbs 22:2 – The rich and the poor have this in common, the LORD is the maker of them all.” God makes both the rich and the poor. This means that those who favor the rich over the poor have not only missed the point of creation, they have insulted the Creator.

Romans 5: 1-4: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character hope.” Peace here is not a subjective feeling of peace. Rather, this peace is the state of being at peace instead of at war. The hostility between God and the believer has ceased. The believer has been reconciled to God. Believers have been granted admission to stand before God. Tribulations refers to physical hardship, suffering and distress.Perseverance means endurance. Trials and tribulations produces endurance when we practice faith during those difficult times. God works in these times to develop certain qualities and virtues that will strengthen us and draw us closer to Him. The result is fortified hope in God and His promises.

Ephesians 5: 25-29: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” Paul does not emphasize the husband’s authority; instead he calls on husbands to love self-sacrificially. Husbands are to emulate Christ’s love, the kind of love that is willing to lay down one’s life for another person and serve that person even if it means suffering. A husband who realizes that his wife is truly “his own flesh” will treat her with love and care. Be safe and have a blessed weekend brothers and sisters!

Psalm 54:1-4: “Save me, O God, by Your name, and vindicate me by Your strength. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen up against me, and oppressors have sought after my life; they have not set God before them. Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life.” The poets of the Bible knew the significance of God’s name even when they did not use it. David makes the point that his oppressors are not pious people. Since he is God’s servant, he expects that God will deliver him. Helper can also be translated as power. The Lord was David’s strength in his time of need. David did not take vengeance into his own hands. Only the Lord can take revenge.

We pick up the narrative right before Jesus was betrayed at Gethsemane, He had gone off privately to pray in John 17: 1-3: “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven and said:’Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son,that Your Son also may glorify You, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.'” Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus referred to the Cross as His “hour”. The time for Him to die had arrived. Jesus was asking that His mission to the world would be made known through the Cross. God would provide forgiveness of sins and give eternal life to all those who believe in the Son

Jeremiah 17: 5, 7, 9, 10 – “Thus says the LORD: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the LORD. Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. The heart is deceitful above all things; and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”‘ We cannot trust in both God and humankind; to turn one’s heart toward people is to turn away from God. One who trusts in God will not be free from trials and adversity, but God will bring guidance and blessing in and through those difficult times.

Colossians 3:16, 17: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Paul sums up how Christians should live. We should commit everything we do or say to Jesus and continually thank God for all His good gifts.
