Some great advice from 1 John 2: 15-17: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” The “world” here is the morally evil system opposed to all that God is and holds dear. In this sense the world is the satanic system opposing Christ’s kingdom on earth. John highlights the brevity of life. To be consumed with this life is to be unprepared for the next. What a tragedy to invest our resources in what will not last. In closing, a special prayer request for all our French brothers and sisters following the aftermath of the Truck attack – “Lord, please be with the families of the deceased and injured and give them strength in their time of need.”
