theWord: Psalm 9:1,2 – “I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.” Real praise is not half-hearted; it involves one’s whole being. The words of these two verses are characteristic of the praise of God in the Psalms. He is to be praised for His works and His name. His name represents who He is; His works stand for all He does. Most High is a designation for the Lord, especially as He rules the nations. Enjoy your weekend friends and thanks for sharing the Word with Caroline and I.

theWord: Proverbs 5:1-6: “My son, pay attention to my wisdom; lend your ear to my understanding, that you may preserve discretion, and your lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, her steps lay hold of hell. Lest you ponder her path of life – her ways are unstable; you do not know them.” This passage strongly speaks for marital fidelity against any and all pressure to the contrary. If you want to preserve discretion, heed these words, lest your feet go down to death. I was unfaithful in my first marriage – adultery carries a HEAVY payback from the LORD. I lost it all – family, home, job..everything. I deserved it. So I can speak from experience. This verse rings true.

theWord: Jesus had been preaching, teaching and healing the sick in various cities; we pick up the narrative in Luke 4: 42, 43: ‘Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them, but He said to them,’ “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” Jesus announced the rule of God through His person, in dealing with sin, in distributing the Spirit, as He mediates blessing from God’s side, and in reigning with His followers according to the Old Testament promise.

Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.” The verb ‘commit to’ is from a word meaning “to roll.” The idea is to “roll your cares to the Lord.” Trusting the Lord with our decisions frees us from preoccupation with our problems.

Romans 8: 26-28: “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” As children of God, we do not always know what to pray for or how to best pray, but we can know the purpose of God which the Holy spirit desires to accomplish. Those who love God are in fact those who are the called by God. Our love is our response to the work of the Holy Spirit in us. God does everything, including redemption, in order to accomplish His plan.

Psalm 136:1-3: “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever.” Give thanks means “to give public acknowledgment.” Mercy, which may also be translated “loyal love,” is the most significant term used in the Psalms to describe the character of God. His mercy is truly “forever” it is part of His eternal character. enjoy your weekend brothers and sisters. Peace be with you all. Thanks to my daughter Jacinda for this gorgeous photo.

Galatians 5: 16, 17, 25, 26: “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” The only consistent way to overcome the sinful desires of our human nature is to live step-by-step in the power of the Holy Spirit as He works through our spirit. To ‘walk in the Spirit’ means to obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit. This will protect us from the desires of the flesh and it’s negative outcome it brings to our lives.
