2 Peter 1: 16-18: “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory:’This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.”

In Peter’s day false teachers were claiming that Jesus’ resurrection and return, as well as the Holy Spirit’s indwelling of believers, were all “cunningly devised fables”.” Peter countered their faith claims with an eyewitness account. Peter himself had actually seen the power and coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Along with James and John, Peter heard the voice of the Father during the Transfiguration. That voice conferred honor upon Jesus by identifying Him as “My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” If you want to research the Transfiguration go to Matthew 17: 1-13.
