Well brothers and sisters – it’s the last day of the year 2015. I know for me a day of reflection – what I’ve accomplished or where I fell short. For me this scripture rings true about what I have learned this year. Jesus is talking with His disciples and the mother of two of the disciples asked Jesus if they could sit at His right and left hand. Matthew 20: 24-27: ‘And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave-just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”‘ So what I have learned is that the measure of greatness is not position, power or prestige; it is service. Be careful if you are out and about tonight – remember the LORD in your prayers and thanksgivings. I’m looking forward to a brilliant 2016!!!

Hebrews 2: 17,18 – “Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” Jesus participated in our nature and in our sufferings on earth so that He could be a sympathetic Mediator between God and humanity. He understands our weaknesses and intercedes for us in the presence of God the Father. Although completely perfect and sinless, Christ voluntarily submitted to the penalty of sin, His agonizing death. This voluntary sacrifice of Himself for our welfare satisfied the justice and holiness of God. The benefits of His sacrifice are applied to all who place their faith in Him.

Morning brothers and sisters – back from a lovely Christmas with my dad and mom in Florida. I hope all had a wonderful Christmas!
the Word: Jesus is speaking to His disciples in John 14: 27 – “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled , neither let it be afraid.” The customary good-bye among the Jews was to say ‘shalom’ meaning “peace.” The Lord was about to depart, so He added to this farewell by saying, My Peace. The peace that Christ gives banishes fear and dread from the heart, for Jesus is in control of all circumstances.

Psalm 27:14 – “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!” To wait on the LORD is to demonstrate confident expectation. The Hebrew word for wait may also be translated as ‘hope’. To hope in God is to wait for His timing and His action. Modern culture is in such a hurry, it takes courage to be still when the world is rushing past. God leaves nothing to chance. He does not place a decision before us with the hope that we’ll make the right choice. But until the Lord makes clear what is the way forward, we’ve got to pause and wait. Those who pause are seeking His will—which means that they are praying, searching Scripture, perhaps even fasting. And they are still serving the Lord wherever they can.

Being obedient to the Lord is not a cake walk. Jesus warned us in John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Tribulation is literally “pressure,” and figuratively means “affliction” or “distress.” Our friends or family may drift away when they realize certain interests of ours have changed. Some may hurl criticism our way or call us unkind names, while others may reject us completely. We can be confident when we place our trust in God, He gives us peace in the midst of pressure.

I think this scripture needs no explanation. Have a wonderful weekend brothers and sisters – appreciate our blessings! Proverbs 30:5 –
“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.”

The apostle Paul is preaching in the city of Thessalonica – when explaining the concept of death to a new Christian community.
1 Thessalonians 4:13, 14: “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.” ‘Fallen asleep’ is a metaphor for death. Paul wanted the people to be comforted by the hope of seeing their loved ones again. This was a hope their pagan neighbors did not have and the same holds true today. This hope for the dead Christians was as certain as the fact of the death and resurrection of Christ. The Bible indicates that to be absent from our present body is to be present with the Lord Jesus. (2 Cor.5:8; Phil.1:23; 1 Thess. 5:10). Accordingly when a Christian dies, it is the body that sleeps; the soul goes to heaven.
