1 Thessalonians 2: 13, 14 – “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord. because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” In this verse Paul is speaking specifically to the Thessalonians whom God had chosen to spread His Son’s word. However, it applies to us all who have given our souls to Christ as God also chose us from the beginning. Our salvation is accomplished by the Holy Spirit when we place our faith in Christ, but it takes both the Spirit and the Word. The Spirit without the Word is mute. The Word without the Spirit is lifeless, it has no power to act. The work of the Spirit is always unified with the work of the Word to convict the believer of the truth.
