This is a good “reality check” scripture. When we fall into our hidden sin, remember what Hebrews 4:12, 13 says: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

As believers, we must accept that God won’t always make sense to us. He sees the beautifully completed big picture. We can rely on the fact that God is in control, no matter how wildly off-kilter our world seems to spin. The Prophet Isaiah explains in Isaiah 55:8, 9 – “”For My thoughts are not your thoughts; nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” When we are in the midst of a trial, it is hard to resist crying out, “God, Why is this happening?” Sometimes we get the answer and sometimes we don’t. What we can be sure of is that nothing happens by accident or coincidence. He has a purpose for even our most painful experiences.

Here’s what I pray today – Psalm 5:1,2 – “Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17 – “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Regardless of difficult circumstances a Christian always has grounds for rejoicing. The Lord is a sovereign Ruler and will accomplish His purpose. Christian joy is not based on circumstances but on a growing awareness of God and the certain future of eternal life with Christ. Praying without ceasing does not mean praying constantly, but being persistent and consistent in prayer.

A special THANK YOU to the men and women who serve our country both now and in the past. We all are soldiers, really, in a much bigger fight. The apostle Paul explains in Ephesians 6: 10-12: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wilesof the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Some thoughts to ponder from King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 3:14, 15 – “I know whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him. That which is, has already been, and what is to be has already been; and God requires an account of what is past.”

theWord: The book of James offers some doctrinal advice for good living in James 4: 7, 8a – “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
