Jesus speaks to His disciples in Matthew 14:12-14.  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”  So, how could Jesus say that believers would do greater works?  The answer is seen in the extent of what the apostles did.  Jesus’ work on earth was confined to Palestine; the apostles would preach everywhere and see the conversion of thousands.  Peter’s message at Pentecost brought more followers to Jesus than did Jesus’ entire earthly ministry!  The disciples were able to do this work because Christ would go to the Father and send the Holy Spirit to empower them.

A Blessing for all my friends who stop by: 2 Thessalonians 3:16, 17 – “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.”

Receive the Blessing God gives in Isaiah 54:10 – “For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed.  But My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has mercy on you.

Hebrews 10:26 – “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain indignation which will devour the adversaries.”   The reference here is not to an occasional sin (which can be confessed and forgiven); but to a conscious rejection of God. If a Christian rejects God’s provision for his or her salvation, there is no other remedy for sins, since forgiveness of sins can only be found in Christ’s perfect sacrifice.

Acts 1: 6-8: Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

If there is any doubt about salvation and the way to it – hear what Jesus Christ has to say in John 3: 17, 18 -“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”  Caroline Carns and I wish all our friends a very positive weekend maybe we’ll see you at Meridian Mardi Gras on Saturday!!

It is up to us to gain the prize of eternal life – how we live and the decisions we make on a daily basis shape our future.  The Heavenly Father wants us all to acheive eternal salvation as you can see from 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”  We will fail, but the strength to succeed comes from the Holy Spirit and is available to a repentant heart.
